English version Hi Rémi it would be a pleasure if to you could answer to this 10 questions 1)Hi Remi and welcome on Abcwindsurf, first of all it would be great if you could tell us which is your work in this moment in Starboard? Hi Eugenio, I am taking care of the R&D program particularly for the Futura, Isonic, Formula, Phantom Race from design to production with all the control that need to be done with Cobra. All this work with the Star-Board Dream Team like Cyril, Kevin, Jimmy, Bjorn but also with Svein & Tiesda. 2)This year, for the first time, Starboard has introduced a new version of its Isonic in carbon wood, why this new choose? Do you think that the old construction was not more competitiveagainst the new boards of the other brands? But until Albeu remained by you, there was no story...and the performances of Dunkerback in Sylt also, when he left T1 for Sb, talk turkey! We are working on ligther boards since 3 years, but we wasn't happy with all of them in full Carbone depending of the size of the boards and also need to be test over 1 year to be sure everything is Ok. The Wood have great advantage for hi-winds boards with is excellent comfort, flex and vibration absorption. The Carbone is excellent for the light wind machine to get more stiffness but also to reduce weight. For the medium winds board we make a combination of both to have the best of both world that we can found in the 94, 101, 111. But we still have both of them in production, the full wood for all models or the mix one with Carbone. It's not only a question of price, people who are looking for more comfort & flex have the possibility to choose the wood ones or the Carbone as I mention. I think it's just normal process, we are trying to make better and better each year. We are working all the time on new Technology to improve what we have right now on the market and hope to get something new who improve the performances and the comfort again just by the construction. 3)Now we are focalizing our attention on the new Sb 131, in the 2009's version surprised the facility of the trim setting, and its huge range of use. If we look only at the shape you will notice some changes concerning the rails but also the Cut Aways. The rails are more hard but also the board is wider in the tail and this help to get planning, acceleration and replacement. The Cut Aways due to the fact that the board is wider are bigger to reduce the wet surface, this have a direct effect to make your board more free and more fast. On top of this we have our Wood/Carbone Technology who give an average of 620 grammes lighter than the Wood version and the stiffness. All together, the board have a wide wind range because win in the low end and still the same in hi-winds, that must be a key board for the PWA Events in light winds. 4)Just one doubt, I think that the new wood carbon construction will bring surely an increase of rigidity and more acceleration in gliding, but ,concerning the range of use of 133, the wood model will be still good? Yes this board will still good due to the shape change but also will be more comfortable in big chop and cheaper. Anyway better than 2009 model. 5)If the old construction ensured, between slalom with less than 130 lt, the best performances with light wind conditions, also thanks the ofo, don't you think that for a less than 80 kg rider the wood model could be anyway the winning choose? In my opinion for riders who want the top performances in the PWA under 80kgs, the 121 will be better in Wood/Carbone, they will be more efficient on this one who need less power on your legs particularly in the upper wind range with a sail around 8,6m² 6)What is the better wind's range for a 80-85 kg rider? And for a 90-95? For 90/95 Kgs for sure the 131 but 80/85 you can use both depend of your skill and your style 121 or 131. 7)And what about the sail range?
8)Which fin do you suggest for the ins&out courses and downwind? For in & out we recommend to take the R16 in 50/52 and downwind 48/50 for a sail around 9m² 9)In this year it seems that Jp, in addition to be the world champion, has gone hard to realize the new boards. Do you think that it will be your most important contender? Which other brand, in your opinion, could be became competitive? F2, fanatic, rrd... We will see in the magazine soon the test results and we are not spy :) just work hard to make better boards to give the better chance to our Dream Team. If we look at the results in Planche Mag in attach file, we are not in bad position!! 10)And now the last question: are you already working with the new 131/133 model? If yes, can you give us an anticipation about where are you focusing on its develop? Yes we are focusing in more wide wind range, comfort and performances but also more light again. Thanks Remi to have taken part and I recommend you to stay tuned for the next interview about the new 111...
All the best and much more Rémi
